Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, along with his associates, reached the DGP office today and demanded his own arrest.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), which was marginalized in the 2022 elections, is once again becoming active. Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who has been consistently active for the past 7-8 months, reached the Punjab DGP office in Chandigarh today.
Accompanied by the party’s core committee, Sukhbir Badal reached the office of DGP (Gaurav Yadav) and staged a sit-in protest. There, he directly told the DGP: “Instead of shuffling my files here and there, why don’t you register an FIR against me directly? Register a case against me; we will not move from here.”

This development is reportedly linked to a 2020 character case involving the disappearance of 328 saroops (holy copies) of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. At that time, the SGPC took action against some of its employees on its own (but no police or external investigation was conducted then), a demand that Sikh leaders and intellectuals have been consistently raising.
In this matter, in December 2025, the Punjab government (led by Bhagwant Mann’s AAP) registered an FIR and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The FIR named 16 people, including SGPC officials and employees.

In January 2026, the SIT arrested Satinder Singh Kohli (former internal auditor of SGPC and a chartered accountant). He is considered close to Sukhbir Singh Badal and also audited Badal’s personal businesses. After this, the SIT conducted raids at several places and intensified the investigation.
Sukhbir Badal alleged that under the pretext of this case, the AAP government is investigating his personal businesses in the name of the probe, raiding the offices of his firms (hotels, bus companies, etc.), accountants—SS Kohli & Associates, Ashwani and Associates—and his old accountants in Bathinda, seizing ledgers/balance sheets, and pressuring family members/employees to fabricate false cases against him. Sukhbir said that if action is to be taken, arrest him (Sukhbir Badal) directly instead of harassing workers or his close associates.
On this occasion, several senior Akali Dal leaders and workers, including Bikram Singh Majithia, were seen standing with Sukhbir Singh Badal. The Akali Dal is describing this protest as opposition to political vendetta and misuse of the police.
