US-Israel strikes kill Iran's Defense Minister and Several Senior Officials

The United States (US) and Israel today carried out large-scale bombings on Iran’s military, nuclear, missile, and political residential sites under Operation Epic Fury and Operation Roaring Lion.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Following the Israel-Iran dispute, the Gulf countries are finally appearing as a battlefield for war. Today, the United States and Israel conducted large-scale bombings on Iran’s military, nuclear, missile, and political residential sites under Operation Epic Fury and Operation Roaring Lion. The US targeted ballistic missiles and the nuclear program, while Israel focused on high-ranking leaders and political targets.

● Attacks took place in Tehran near the office/compound of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the presidential office, and IRGC (Revolutionary Guard) headquarters, as well as in University Street and the Jamhuri area.

● Attacks reported on nuclear and missile sites in Isfahan.

● Military and religious/political sites targeted in Qom.

● In Karaj: Military and intelligence targets hit by the US.

● In Kermanshah: Military base and missile launchers.

● Explosions and attacks reported in Tabriz, Ilam, Lorestan province, Khorramabad, and other areas.

● Confirmed attack on a girls’ school in Minab County, Hormozgan province (southern Iran), with Iranian media reporting 40-57 deaths.

Reports indicate that Iran’s Defense Minister Amir Nasirzadeh (Amir Nasirzadeh) or Amir Hatami (Amir Hatami) was killed in the US-Israel strikes. In addition, reports of the death of IRGC (Revolutionary Guard) commander Mohammad Pakpour and other senior officials. Iran has not yet confirmed this, but these are being described as “decapitation strikes” (attacks targeting leaders).

In response, Iran launched large-scale missile and drone attacks on the United States and Israel. These attacks were primarily directed at Israel and US military bases in the Gulf region. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) described this as the “first major wave” and stated that more attacks would continue.

Iran carried out several waves of drone and ballistic missile attacks on Israel. These targeted northern Israel in Haifa, surrounding areas (such as Tirat Carmel), etc. Israel’s air defense (such as Iron Dome) intercepted most of the missiles, but some fragments fell to the ground and one civilian was injured. Sirens are sounding across the entire country after Iran’s attacks, and strikes are ongoing.

Iran also targeted American military sites in the Gulf countries.

● Bahrain: Images of explosions and smoke have emerged from the headquarters of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet (in Juffair/Manama), considered the most serious attack.

● Syria (Suwayda): 4 deaths confirmed from Iranian missiles.

● Qatar: Missiles intercepted at Al Udeid Air Base, but large-scale explosions heard.

● United Arab Emirates (UAE): Report of one death in Iran’s attack on Al Dhafra Air Base and Abu Dhabi; missiles intercepted but large-scale smoke and explosions observed.

● Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) closed. Burj Khalifa evacuated for security reasons.

● Kuwait: Missiles targeted at Al Salem Air Base and other US bases; intercepted.

● Jordan: Muwaffaq Al-Salti Air Base and other US sites – reports of intercepts and attacks.

● Others: Some attacks or explosions reported in Iraq (northern areas with US bases), Syria, and Saudi Arabia.

These attacks are retaliatory following the US-Israel strikes on Iran, and airspace in the region has been closed, with flights being canceled. Oil prices have risen, and the situation is extremely dangerous. This could escalate into a regional war.

Statements given earlier by the United States, Israel, and Iran:

Donald Trump repeatedly warned that Iran must agree to a nuclear deal, otherwise “very bad things” would happen. He stated that Iran cannot build nuclear weapons and he would never allow it. In the State of the Union, he spoke of stopping Iran from moving toward “sinister ambitions” and said he wants a solution through diplomacy but will not allow nuclear weapons.

The US President described this as “major combat operations” and appealed to the Iranian people to revolt against their government, mentioning regime change.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that if Iran attacks, they will receive “a response they cannot even imagine,” and it would be their biggest mistake in life. He said Israel and the US are working together and are ready to eliminate the “real threat” from Iran. Israel stated it is prepared for any situation and could launch a “very severe attack” on Iran, larger than the June 2025 operation.

Israel’s Defense Minister and other officials spoke of carrying out pre-emptive strikes and taking necessary steps to end the regime.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that if attacked, they would give a “firm and decisive” response and target Israel and American bases. He warned that an attack by the US or Israel would lead to a “regional war.” Iran stated it would retain its nuclear program and missiles and would not accept American demands (such as destroying facilities). They mentioned drills and preparations, saying that if the threat increases, they could respond preemptively.

Statements today (February 28, 2026) after the large-scale attacks on Iran by the United States, Israel, and Iran’s responses:

President Trump announced in a video message that US forces have started “major combat operations” in Iran. He said, “We are eliminating the threat of the Iranian regime to protect the American people. We will destroy their missile industry and navy.”

He appealed to the Iranian people: “When we finish, form your own government and take control of the country. This will be yours. This may be your only chance for generations.” The President directly appealed to the Iranian people for regime change. He warned that American lives could also be lost in this fight, but it is necessary so that Iran cannot build nuclear weapons and become a threat.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this joint US-Israel operation is to eliminate the “existential threat.” He said, “This operation will create conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their future into their own hands and free themselves from the yoke of dictatorship.”

Israel’s Defense Minister Katz described it as a “pre-emptive strike” and said it was necessary to remove the threat to Israel. Israel stated that the strikes targeted Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the President, and military leaders.

Iran described the attacks as “unprovoked, illegal, and illegitimate.”

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, “Netanyahu and Trump’s war on Iran is completely unprovoked, illegal, and unrecognized. Trump has turned ‘America First’ into ‘Israel First,’ which means ‘America Last.'”

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said they would give a “crushing response” and are targeting American bases and Israel. One Iranian official said, “Our forces will teach America and Israel a lesson.” They have started retaliatory missile and drone attacks.

Iran accused the attacks of including civilian targets, such as an attack on a school in southern Iran resulting in over 50 deaths.
