SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Workers protested over wage hike in Phase-2 and Sector 60-62 areas of Noida, which turned violent, during which incidents of angry protesters setting vehicles on fire, vandalizing them and pelting stones at the police have been reported. To bring the situation under control, the police fired tear gas shells and lathi-charged. The police have so far detained about 50 protesters on charges of violence.
Due to this protest, heavy traffic jams occurred in areas like Delhi-Noida border and Sector 62, due to which the passers-by had to face difficulties for hours.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has formed a high-level committee to investigate the matter and directed the officials to resolve the problems of the workers.
The protesting workers say that wages have been increased in the neighboring state of Haryana, but their wages in Uttar Pradesh are still low, due to which it is becoming difficult for them to survive.
According to the workers, they are getting only ₹11,000 to ₹13,000 for a 10-12 hour shift, while they are demanding a minimum wage of ₹20,000 and double overtime on the lines of Haryana.

Earlier, in the first week of April, workers in Manesar went on a strike demanding a 35% wage hike. The police arrested 56 people in connection with the violence that took place during this. In response, the Haryana government has implemented new wage rates (₹15,220 for uneducated workers).
Workers at the Samsung factory in Sriperumbudur near Chennai waged a long struggle for union recognition and wage hike between January and March 2026. Protests have resumed for the reinstatement of the workers who were suspended in March 2026.
On 14 March 2026, there was heavy violence at the Adani Power Plant (Badhaura) after the death of a worker, Lallan Singh. The workers, accusing the management of negligence, vandalised the plant, set vehicles on fire and pelted stones at the police. They were demanding 8-hour shifts instead of 12 hours and better security.
On 12 February, the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) and the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) jointly went on a nationwide strike. About 30 crore workers demanded the repeal of the new labour codes and the restoration of MGNREGA.
During December 2025, workers and displaced families protested by blocking the main gate at this port in Visakhapatnam. They alleged that ₹2 lakh had been deducted from the compensation of ₹27 lakh and the promised jobs were still pending.
