
Municipal council elections in Punjab will be held on May 26 and the results will be announced on May 29. After the filing of nomination papers, reports are coming out from all over Punjab that the nominations of the ruling party’s opponents (candidates wishing to contest the MC elections) have been rejected.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): After the filing of nomination papers for the Punjab Municipal Council elections, the names of the candidates for the MC elections were announced today by the ROs related to the constituencies. Since morning, there has been a tense atmosphere between the ruling party and the opposition parties from many parts of the state due to allegations of forced rejection of nomination papers.
In Sunam Udham Singh Wala, the news of the RO rejecting the nominations of 13 candidates who wanted to contest the MC elections has been received, after which BJP leaders Daman Thind Bajwa, Harman Bajwa along with their colleagues and those candidates started a dharna on Sunam Hospital Road and started shouting slogans against the government and AAP Prime Minister Aman Arora.
As soon as the RO released the list of candidates, from which the names of 13 candidates were removed. Congress party leaders Rajinder Deepa, Manpreet Mani, Jaswinder Dhiman, Akali Dal constituency incharge Vinarjit Singh Goldy and other leaders joined this dharna. After which these leaders demanded information from the RO about the objections of the candidates whose papers have been rejected (after some people raised objections). These leaders also announced to go to the High Court against the rejection of the nomination papers.

The protesters were stopped by security personnel just before the house of MLA Aman Arora as they were heading towards the house of MLA to burn the effigy of MLA Aman Arora. Where the protesters burnt the effigy of the MLA and raised slogans.
Election officials and the ruling party have denied these allegations, saying that the scrutiny of nomination papers has been done completely impartially and in accordance with the Election Commission’s rules. Only those papers that had legal errors have been rejected.
