During the tenure of the AAP government, which came to power after winning 92 out of 117 seats, some individuals are continuously trying to disrupt the peace of the state.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Punjab): Between March 2022 and May 2026, many such incidents have taken place in Punjab which put the law and order of the state in the dock. During this period, apart from numerous murders, looting incidents, several bomb blasts have taken place. Which have raised questions on the government and the administration. The opposition parties are raising big questions about the performance of the Chief Minister (who is also the Home Minister) and law and order regarding the deteriorating situation in the state.
Two blasts/blast-like incidents took place in Amritsar and Jalandhar on the night of May 5, 2026 (Tuesday), which have increased security concerns in Punjab. The incidents took place near defence installations and no major casualties were reported in any of the incidents.
A parked Activa/scooter suddenly caught fire and there was a loud bang at BSF Chowk, outside the BSF (Border Security Force) Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar, at around 8 pm on Tuesday. The impact was felt up to 300 metres. A delivery worker (Gurpreet Singh, age 22) suffered minor injuries in the incident. He had gone a little away from his scooter when the accident took place.

Forensic teams, bomb disposal squad and CCTV footage are investigating. Police said it could be an arson attack, but all angles are being investigated.
According to Republicworld.com, the Jalandhar incident was claimed by the KLA through a social media poster/letter, in which the KLA described the attack as “Operation Nawan Sawera” and said that the blast was carried out to avenge the death of its comrade Ranjit Singh in the Gurdaspur encounter in February 2026. They have also threatened more attacks in the future.
About 3 hours after the Jalandhar incident, a blast took place on Attari Road, near the outer wall of the Army Cantonment (Army’s Khasa Camp) in the Khasa area of Amritsar. According to the police, an explosive device (possibly a grenade or IED) was thrown towards the wall. Metal fragments were found stuck in the wall. The masked men attacked and fled. No casualties were reported.
Forensic teams and the Army/Police have sealed the blast site. The NIA has also joined the investigation after this incident. Alert is on across Punjab, security has been increased at defence installations.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav told the media that IED (Improvised Explosive Device) was used in both the blasts. The Amritsar blast was a low-intensity blast. He said these incidents could be linked to the conspiracy of Pakistani ISI. He called it a “proxy war” and an attempt to create instability before the Operation Sindoor anniversary.
The DGP said Punjab is a frontline state and is fighting for the country. A handful of elements want to create instability in the state. The link between the Jalandhar and Amritsar blasts has not been established yet. Investigation is underway (including forensics, CCTV, NIA). He said the Khalistan Liberation Army (KLA) has claimed responsibility for the Jalandhar incident, but investigation is underway to confirm it.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described these blasts as “small and large” blasts and said that an investigation is underway. The Chief Minister directly called it BJP’s election preparations. He said that wherever BJP wants to contest elections, there it does riots, small and large blasts and acts of incitement of religion/caste so that it can get votes by creating fear among the people. He warned the BJP that Punjabis will not tolerate such tactics and the “Bengal formula” will not work here.
The Chief Minister said that the atmosphere in Punjab will not be allowed to deteriorate due to such incidents. Law and order will be maintained and the culprits will be severely punished.
The opposition, especially the Akali Dal and the Congress, expressed surprise at the separate claims made by the Chief Minister and the DGP Punjab, the opposition held Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann responsible for the deterioration of law and order in the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party condemned the targeting of BJP by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for these blasts and the separate statements made by the Chief Minister and the DGP. The Chief Minister was held largely responsible for the different responses, raising questions.
