The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has snatched West Bengal from TMC. Once considered a stronghold of the Communists, the state has now been stamped with the politics of polarisation.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): The results of the assembly elections held in West Bengal (23, 29 April), Assam (9 April), Tamil Nadu (23 April), Kerala (9 April), and Puducherry (9 April) were declared today on 4 May. Among these, the results from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have surprised everyone.
In West Bengal, through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, around 91 lakh voters were removed from the electoral rolls. Additionally, nearly 27 lakh voters — who had voted in previous elections — (referred to as Bangladeshi infiltrators) were put in the doubtful category. This has delivered a major shock to Mamata Banerjee, who has been sitting in the Chief Minister’s chair for the last 15 years. The biggest blow to Mamata Banerjee is her defeat in the (2021, 2026) elections from Nandigram and Bhawanipur seats at the hands of Suvendu Adhikari. Adhikari was once considered extremely close to Mamata.

In Tamil Nadu, the new party TVK, founded in 2024 by popular South Indian actor C. Joseph Vijay, has pushed both DMK and AIADMK out of power, giving birth to a new political era in the South. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has lost from his own assembly constituency Kolathur. This is being seen as a major setback in his political career. TVK is very close to a majority, and reports suggest that Congress and some smaller parties are ready to extend support to TVK.
In Assam, the BJP and its allies are set to form the government for the third consecutive time after 2016 and 2021. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who joined BJP in 2015 after leaving Congress, has worked day and night for the party since 2016. He is set to take oath as Chief Minister for the second consecutive term after 10 May 2021.
The last bastion of the Communists in Indian politics — Kerala — has also slipped away. For the first time in five decades, the comrades have been completely sidelined in the country’s politics. Congress and its allied left-front parties have succeeded in snatching power from the Left. In Kerala politics, the BJP has won seats (3) for the first time.
In the Puducherry assembly elections, the NDA alliance is set to form the government for the second time after 2021. N. Rangasamy, who left Congress in 2011 to form his own party All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), will take oath as Chief Minister for the fifth time.
